Savoy Construction was appointed by the Core Education Trust to undertake Phase 1 of their refurbishment programme at City Academy in Birmingham.
We were appointed under a 2-stage JCT design and build contract which included the novation of the clients existing design team.
City Academy is a 5-storey city centre occupied building and the works included the full strip-out of each floor, the upgrade of heating and ventilations systems, new electrical installations (inc. alarms, CCTV and access control), passive fire upgrades, new partition walls and glazing screens, suspended ceilings, fire doors, new WC’s, flooring and decorations.
To enable the school to remain occupied throughout these major works, the project was programmed and delivered in phases between academic term periods. This allowed the school to decant and occupy floor areas during half-term periods to help minimise disruption to the staff and pupils.
